EARTH DAY 2016 CELEBRATION

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1481 dated April 10, 2008 “Declaring April 22 of every year as the Philippines Earth Day”, the Laguna Lake Development Authority joins the 2016 celebration of Earth Day Philippines with international theme “Trees for the Earth” and campaign slogan “Step up and deliver, #GreenEnvironmentGawing Forever” spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Earth Day Network Philippines, Incorporated (EDNPI).

Earth Day Covenant Signing

In support to the Philippine signing and ratification of the Paris Agreement, the DENR along with EDNPI and Climate Change Commission (CCC) leads the Covenant Signing at the DENR Social Hall on April 22, 2016 which serves as the kick-off event of the 2016 Earth Day Celebration of the Philippines. The event coincides with the high-level signing ceremony for the United United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 21st Conference of Parties (COP21) Paris Agreement held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, City, United States of America.

SANDIWANG (Isang Diwa sa Pagdiriwang ng Kalikasan), an exhibit that showcases climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies was held simultaneously on April 22, 2016 at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center (NAPWC).

For the culmination of the Earth Day 2016 celebration, the 3rd PRO Earth Run was held at the Mall of Asia Grounds on April 30, 2016 and was participated by partners from government agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs), private corporations, academic institutions, religious groups, and environmental advocates.

Pro-Earth Fun Run

The PRO Earth Run is an annual fun run held every April in celebration of the Earth Day Philippines. The event aims to bring people from different sectors together and encourage to Protect, Respect, and Oversee care for Mother Earth. Proceeds of the event will be used to sustain the continuing efforts of Earth Day Network Philippines (EDNPI) with regards to its advocacies on Ecological Solid Waste Management, Reforestation and Biodiversity Conservation, Water Stewardship, and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation.

Earth Day Network Philippines, Inc. (EDNPI) is the local counterpart of the global Earth Day Network International. It is a network organization that campaigns for environmental citizenship and spearheads the annual April 22nd Earth Day Celebration in the Philippines. It is in partnership with government agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs), private corporations, academic institutions, religious groups, and environmental advocates.
