FLAG RAISING CEREMONY AT THE DENR

Last August 7, LLDA GM Jaime Medina - along with AGM Generoso Dungo and the LLDA staff - headed to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to join Sec. Roy Cimatu for a special Flag Raising Ceremony.

During the short program, GM Medina proudly shared the progress of LLDA, including its successful reduction of fishpen areas. Under his leadership, the LLDA has demolished 44 fishpens with an aggregate area of 1,660 hectares equivalent to 45% of the total illegal fishpen area of 3,700 hectares. In addition to this, 15 out of 323 legitimate fishpen operators voluntarily reduced their fishpen area to 25 hectares, bringing the total area of demolished fishpens to 2,000 hectares. This is one of the many efforts of LLDA to bring back balance to Laguna Lake, the biggest and most important lake in the country.

“We are fast-tracking the programs to meet the deadlines provided to us by the President. In his 2016 State of the Nation Address (SONA), he gave us clear directives, and we are happy that he shares our vision and has given us his full support,” says GM Medina.

While addressing the lawmakers and the public last year, President Rodrigo Duterte stressed his goal for Laguna Lake: “(It) shall be transformed into a vibrant economic zone showcasing ecotourism by addressing the negative impact of the watershed destruction, land conversion and pollution.
