LLDA MEETS WITH HUNGARIAN WATER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION

Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) General Manager Jaime “Joey” Medina met with Adrian Kiss of the Hungarian Water Technology Corporation (HWTC) as he played host to the weeklong visit of the Hungarian CEO from January 30 to February 6, 2018.

Development projects for the Laguna de Bay were central to the discussions and meetings with LLDA officials as well as during his meeting with Department of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel “Manny” F. Piñol, together with GM Jaime C. Medina, AGM Generoso M. Dungo Department Head Emiterio C. Hernandez and other LLDA officials. He was also given a plant tour of the Manila Water Company, Inc. facility as well as a tour of the Laguna Lake.

The visit of Mr. Kiss is a follow-up meeting to the working visit to Hungary of DA Secretary Manny Piñol and LLDA GM Medina in September last year, wherein the Laguna Lake rehabilitation program is proposed as a government-to-government engagement to tap the Hungarian expertise towards addressing the issue of pollution and wastewater treatment in Laguna Lake through their state-of- the-art facilities and technology.

Hungary is a world leader in water services and wastewater treatment technology which it wants to share this experience with other countries like the Philippines. The Hungarian Water Diplomacy is a high-priority policy and program of their government that they have undertaken global water diplomacy initiatives through their ministry of foreign affairs. The Hungarian Export-Import Bank Plc. (Eximbank) is the bank that arranges the provision of the tied aid loan on the basis of the intergovernmental agreement. It has existing water diplomacy projects in Pakistan, Vietnam. Sri Lanka, and Indonesia, just to name a few.
